Sir Edmond Gin lands on Réunion Island

Dutch brand Sir Edmond Gin is now available to purchase on Réunion Island.

Described by the brand as the ‘vanilla capital of the world’, the bourbon vanilla-infused gin is available at Bô Gourmet. The island is located east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. Réunion Island is an overseas department and region of France. It is part of the Eurozone, and is the outermost region of the European Union. Flora and fauna on the island is diverse; more than a third of the island is covered with forest and wild plants. It is also the home of bourbon vanilla, a key ingredient in Sir Edmond Gin. Edmond Albius was born a slave in Sainte-Suzanne, a commune on the north coast of Réunion Island. At 12 years old, in 1841, he discovered that vanilla orchids could be artificially pollinated by hand. His method was adopted widely, and is still being used today on the island, and further afield. The last couple of months have marked a busy period of expansion for Sir Edmond Gin. The brand made its debut in France in February before it launched in Poland in March. Sir Edmond also revealed plans to expand to India, Colombia and Indonesia this year. Earlier this month, the brand launched an online academy portal to showcase videos about the history and craft of the gin.
