First sold in 1830, it became an iconic brand in France. It is made with a base of mistelle, fortified grape juice that preserves the sugars of the fruit. This is blended with aromatic plants, including quinquina and bitter orange peels, vanilla and cocoa. Serve neat, chilled or on the rocks, or in a cocktail.
The wonderfully fragrant St. Raphaël Doré, also called Ambré—is based on white wine and includes vanilla amongst other herbs.
