Many producers in Sonora risked their lives to make their Bacanora mezcal. For reasons that are still murky, Bacanora production was banned in Sonora, Mexico for 77 years. Anyone caught distilling agave piñas (hearts) were hanged or imprisoned. But these brave, committed men persevered until the ban was lifted in 1992.

Sight: Crystal clarity with medium viscosity
Nose: Rich and earthy, with hints of citrus, pear and vanilla
Taste: Dry, complex, slightly smoky with touches of straw and an earthy finish.
